Bright Floral Vibes in the Shenandoah Valley

Amy & Ahen

Chicago, Illinois

Set against the skyline and riverfront views of River Roast, this wedding was a beautiful study in contrast — romantic softness unfolding in the heart of an architectural city.

The couple, both accomplished volleyball coaches competing and coaching at the collegiate and professional levels, are no strangers to discipline, distance, and devotion. Living on opposite sides of the country, they’ve built a relationship rooted in commitment — a fitting foundation for not one, but three separate wedding ceremonies bringing their worlds together. Their celebration was more than a wedding; it was the uniting of two cultures, two coasts, and two extraordinary journeys.

From the very beginning, symbolism guided the design. The wood ducks — known to mate for life and representing fidelity, sincerity, and everlasting love in Korean tradition — became a meaningful thread woven throughout the stationery. Illustrated with intention and care, they quietly told a story of partnership and lifelong commitment.

The invitation suite embraced a romantic palette of blush, ivory, and soft gold — delicate against the bold backdrop of Chicago’s skyline. Handmade paper introduced organic texture, while hand-sewn details added a couture, almost heirloom quality. Subtle lace patterns were incorporated into the design, echoing the intricate details of the bride’s traditional wedding dress and honoring her American heritage while beautifully complementing the groom’s Korean traditions.

On the wedding day, thoughtful details continued the narrative. Wax seals in varying colors not only added a refined touch but thoughtfully denoted guests’ meal selections — a functional detail elevated into design. Custom cocktail napkins carried their monogram and crest, while escort cards included a brief explanation of the wood duck tradition, inviting guests into the deeper meaning behind the imagery.

Romantic yet grounded. Soft yet strong. Traditional yet modern.

In the middle of one of the country’s most iconic cities, this stationery suite reflected a love built on dedication, cultural reverence, and the kind of partnership that, like the wood ducks they chose to honor, is meant to last a lifetime.
